Some known and a few little known facts

David Santee was born on July 22nd, 1957 in Oak Park, Illinois. In 1964, his family moved to Park Ridge, Illinois and he has been a resident for the most part since then. He began skating at the age of 5 when his parents took advantage of a skating special at the nearby Michael Kirby Skating School. He played hockey as a Mite until he saw a picture of his hero, Bobby Hull, and upon noticing that he had no teeth, retired to a sport where teeth remain intact.

At the age of 8 1/2, he decided that he would give competitive skating a try. By the time he turned 14, he was already the National Junior Champion and had moved into the Senior ranks. When he retired at the age of 24 in 1982, he had medaled 10 times at the National Championships, competed 7 times at the World Championships, was a two-time Olympian, and the 1981 World Silver Medalist.

After a 3 year stint with the John Curry Skating Company, David retired back to his hometown of Park Ridge and took the position of Competitive Skating Coordinator at the Oakton Ice Arena. Happy to be back where he spent so much of his youth, David is currently the Director of Skating for the Park Ridge Park District. He oversees all skating activities at the Oakton Ice Arena. He also serves on the Board of the Ice Skating Institute as the Instructors Representative and is ISI's Rep on the U.S. Figure Skating Board of Dierectors. He has been the recepient of ISI's Great Skate Award and is the 2010 Chicago Magazine's Best Skating Coach in Chicago Award winner.
